Harness Cask
Used by the British Navy.
Based upon a type of cask used in the British Navy from the late 18th through 19th centuries, designed for shipboard storage of mainly dry provisions such as salt beef, etc. Lid hinged with leather and fastened with leather closure. Steel hoops, two mainlar rope handles. Solid white pine. Approximate dimensions 23" high, 17" bottom head diameter, 13" top diameter. Capacity approximately 9 Imperial gallons.
